Rankings Criteria and Methodology

FA Magazine’s RIA Survey and Rankings 2023 & 2024

Methodology:
FA Magazine’s RIA Survey and Rankings is an annual survey performed by Financial Advisor Magazine that orders firms from largest to smallest, based on year-end assets under management (AUM) reported by individual firms that voluntarily complete and submit the magazine's survey.  To be eligible firms must be registered investment advisors, provide financial planning and related services to individual clients. All firms must be either independently owned or a freestanding subsidiary of another business. Firms with at least $500 million in assets under management (discretionary and non-discretionary as reported on Form ADV as of year-end) will be included in FA’s national “America’s Top RIAs”. There is no application fee to participate.  To view the entire list of recipients and learn more about the methodology, click here.

Methodology:
AdvisoryHQ’s review and ranking articles are always 100% independently researched and written. Financial advisory and wealth management firms do not pay for their ranking. In fact, most firms do not even realize that they are being reviewed and ranked by AdvisoryHQ until after our ranking publication has been completed and published to the public.

To generate a more reflective ranking, AdvisoryHQ goes beyond fees, ratios, data, and metrics. They developed ground-breaking and multi-prong “Top-Down Review & Ranking Methodologies” that are carried out by actual people (their research and editorial teams) versus online systems or machines.

AdvisoryHQ methodologies are based on a wide range of filters including: fiduciary duty, independence, quality of services provided, overall value provided, transparency, level of customized services, history of innovation, fee structure, customer experience (positive and negative), team excellence, and experience.
